KXIP’s roller-coaster ride in IPL 2020

KL was recently involved in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) where he donned the captain hat for his franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the first time. The right-hander did a decent job in his debut season as a captain. He is also the prime contender of winning the race of the highest run-getter in the T20 Championship as in 14 games he aggregated 670 runs at an average of 55.83 and strike rate of 129.34. The skipper also smashed one century and five half-centuries, 132* being his highest score.

As far as the performance of KXIP is concerned, the team had a disappointing start in the tournament as they lost six out of their first seven games. However, Punjab made a stunning comeback as they won five games on a trot in the second half of the tournament defeating some of the most prolific teams of IPL 2020 namely Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, they lost their last two games against Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings respectively, and were out of the race for the playoffs. The Punjab-based franchise finished at the sixth spot in the points table with 12 points in 14 fixtures.
