The MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli debate with regards to captaincy never seem to stop. After yet another heartbreak for India in the ICC events, fans and followers of the game were quick to compare Kohli with Dhoni and supported the latter thereby saying he is the best since he has won three ICC trophies. Well, if that was one thing that had kept the fans hooked for a while, then India batter KL Rahul’s comment has again reignited the debate with a new twist.

Apparently, Dhoni was the leader when KL Rahul made his ODI debut and scored a hundred as well. Not only the right-hand batter, but many youngsters have gone onto make their debuts under Dhoni, and are still at the peak of their career. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami are still in the team and have gone on to win games on their own for the team.

Even Kohli made his debut under Dhoni and has always been vocal about the 39-year-old’s leadership and his guidance while he was the captain. “You will always be my captain,” Kohli had famously tweeted while wishing him on his birthday, which goes on to show the kind of respect the former skipper still commands among his teammates.

Now, Rahul’s comments that he and the rest of the teammates can even “take a bullet for MSD” have given Dhoni fans yet another reason to celebrate his great captaincy records and what he has achieved as a player.

KL Rahul effusive in praise of MS Dhoni’s leadership

The stylish right-hand batter, who didn’t play a lot under Dhoni, still feels he is the best in business and the teammates have a lot of respect for him as to what he has done on and off the field.

“The minute anybody says captain, the first name that comes to mind from our era will be MS Dhoni. We have all played under him. Yes, he has won a lot of tournaments, done amazing things for the country but I think the biggest achievement that as captain you can have is the respect of your teammates and any of us would take a bullet for him without a second thought,” KL Rahul said in an interaction with Forbes India.

“Something I have learned from him is how humble he has been through ups and downs, how he has put his country ahead of everything is just unbelievable,” he added.

These comments from Rahul created war of words between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli fans.
