The Indian squad is currently on a gruelling tour of South Africa where they are currently involved in the limited overs series. After a shaky start with the loss of the test series by 2-1, the visitors have stabilized themselves in the six-match ODI series by winning 3 matches out of 6. The fourth ODI is scheduled 10th of February at Johannesburg.
The skipper Virat Kohli, as usual, has led from the front once again throughout the tour. He was the lone centurion in the Test series and has looked at his best by adding couple more tons to his tally in the ODI leg. He is the youngest batsmen ever to have hit 34 ODI centuries.
So far in the series, Kohli has once again topped the batting charts with his consistent and dependable game. He was supported by different batsmen from the other end in each of the three games. Virat has scored 318 runs and is looking good to accumulate more. He has been well complemented by the wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav who have shared a mammoth 21 wickets between them.
Kohli’s purple patch
The 29-year-old right handed batsman started off the series with 112 and followed it with a couple of unbeaten knocks of 46 and 160. His average has shot up to a whopping 318 and he is just 41 runs away from breaking AB de Villiers’ record of scoring the maximum runs in an India-South Africa bilateral ODI series. Mr 360 had scored 358 runs during the Proteas’ visit to India in 2015 which is the highest.
Now Virat Kohli has a fair chance to make it even with his extremely good friend AB De Villiers who will be returning to the team for the second half of the series. He missed the first three games due to an injury which he sustained during the closely fought Test series against India.
