Lancashire leg-spinner Matthew Parkinson was recently featured in the recent warm-up game between England and South Africa XI. He terrific mark with the ball by bagging three wickets to his subtle bowling variations of good line and length. Much to his notable performance, he was given an opportunity to make a mark even in ODIs for the first time where he became England’s 174th player to bowl in a men’s ODI fixture.
Parkinson earned his debut cap ahead of the first of the three-match ODI series between England and South Africa. But the spinner failed to deliver the goods against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town. South Africa got the better of England by seven wickets in Newlands to take the first lead in the series.
The pitches in South Africa are playing a tad slow and taking into perspective, Parkinson is expected to be given one more chance in the playing XI. With Adil Rashid in the bowling brigade, one more failure may put Parkinson on the back foot. Parkinson is under pressure to face the music when he takes to the field at the Kingsmead in Durban for the second ODI which is scheduled to be held on Friday (February 7).
