Former Indian skipper was all smiles about the recent performance of team India. He spoke at length about the various prospects for this team and the current players. Dravid was present at the launch of ‘Link Lecture Series’ at Mumbai recently. He had shouldered the responsibility of being the pillar stone of India batting for almost a decade and a half. ‘The wall’, as he is popularly known, believes the team is in safe hands.

Rahul Dravid played in the generation when the legends like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and himself played for team India. He opined that the current team also boasts of modern day legends. He quoted Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin to be the modern generation legends. He rightly cited the steady progress of both the players in such short span of time.

“There will be legends from this generation as well. You’ve just got to give it a bit of time. I think someone like a Virat Kohli is already a legend. Ravichandran Ashwin’s performances in the 40-odd Test matches that he has played, I was reading, is better than anyone in the history of the game,” quoted Rahul Dravid.

He further said that the modern day players are scrutinized so much owing to the advancements in social media. He mentioned, “You will produce legends. I think stars are the reflection more on the media today. There’s so much instant media or social media available today.”

Rav Ashwin is currently the top-ranked all-rounder in the world. He is the go to man for the Indian team in the crisis situation. Virat, on the other hand, has been a juggernaut in his own field. He has escalated up to number 3 in the ICC Test rankings. He heads the rankings in the T20 format.

Dravid looked pleased with the middle order too. He complimented Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane for doing a great job for the country. “Pujara has been exceptional at No. 3 after I have left. He has batted beautifully, he has played well in this series (against England). He is a terrific Test player. I hope we are going to see his best years ahead. Ajinkya Rahane has been exceptional as well. Virat is absolutely sensational,” mentioned the former Indian skipper.
