Amidst the ongoing turmoil off the field in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Australian media has most recently claimed that Virat Kohli is the most hated sports person in the world. However, former Aussie skipper Michael Clarke has rubbished such name-calling and has said that Kohli is ‘no way’ unpopular, or as the Australians claimed, the ‘world’s most hated sports person’.

The Daily Telegraph took the liberty to dub Kohli as ‘the Donald Trump of world sport,’ as it claimed that the Indian skipper had been spreading ‘fake news’ about the Australian cricketers. The article read, “The Indian captain is a law unto himself with no one – not even the ICC or his own board – holding him accountable for his continual perpetuation of fake news.”

Furthermore, the article added, “Just like President Trump, Kohli decided to blame the media as a means of trying to hide the egg smeared right across his face.”

However, Clarke rubbished the claims. When asked if Kohli was the most hated sports person in the world, Clarke said, “No way. That’s completely incorrect. Australian players love him.”

“I know Virat Kohli and I don’t think he is doing anything we wouldn’t do as Australians. We play the game as hard as any country in the world. We are tough on the field. And that is Virat Kohli. He is exactly that.” Added Clarke to India Today

“Australian players love Virat Kohli. And I am sure lots in the Australian media also love Kohli,” he added.

Things had heated up from the Bengaluru Test, during which captain Steve Smith looked at the dressing room in search for some advice before taking a DRS against his dismissal. He later went on to admit that it was ‘brain fade’ and that he ‘shouldn’t have done it’. Kohli was however quite clear in his press conference, saying that if something had been going on for three days, it most certainly was not a ‘brain fade’.

With matters quite bitter leading into the final Test, the two sides will meet each other one last time in Dharamsala, for the deciding game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
