Three of the most prominent names of Indian cricket MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane feature in a promotional ad. They show their love for their mothers in these advertisements. It aims at gender equality and is keen on bringing to the fore the key roles women play in anybody’s life. The cricketers can be seen getting a touch emotional about the contributions their mothers have made in their life.

The Managing Director of Star India, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, quoted that their motto is to challenge the existing stereotypes and orthodoxy of the society. He further expressed his happiness on collaborating with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their noble venture. It was under this initiative that the players are seen wearing the names of their mothers on their jerseys in the advertisements.

“We at Star India are very happy to partner with BCCI for an iconic brand initiative of “Nayi Soch”. Star Plus has been a lighthouse brand for women. We have always put women first, told their stories, and are now set to take it to the next level – by challenging orthodoxy and stereotypes that come in the way of progress for women,” quoted Mr. Sanjay Gupta.

In the ad featuring Dhoni, the Indian limited-overs captain wears a jersey highlighting the impact Devki Dhoni has had on his life. His recent biopic release showcased how his mother Devki Dhoni was very supportive throughout his career.

When questioned why he has his mother’s name on his jersey, Dhoni replies saying that over the years when he sported his dad’s name, nobody questioned back then.

Dhoni says, “Itne dino se main apne pita ka naam pehen raha, tab to aap ne kabhi nahi poocha ki koi khaas wajah?”

Virat Kohli lost his father at a very young age. Since then it has been his mother Saroj Kohli who has been the driving force behind India’s run machine. Kohli proudly admits the support and sacrifices made by her mother. He says he is as much Saroj as he is Kohli. “Main jitna Kohli hu, utna Saroj bhi,”quotes Virat Kohli.

Ajinkya Rahane had his story to share too. He reveals that it was his mother who used to carry his kit back and accompany him to the clubs during his playing days. He says it is equally important for him to make his mother proud as it is for him to make his father proud.

Log kahte hai baap ka naam raushan karo, lekin mere liye Maa kaa naam bhi roshan karna utna hi important hai,” says Rahane.
