Kolkata Police Constable loses eyesight after being hit by a six from David Miller: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) v Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) game at the Eden Gardens; though brought smiles for the home team as they won the game by a wicket in the last over but it turned out to be a tragic one for a Kolkata Police Constable Alok Aich. Aich who was deployed at the stadium on duty was hit on his right eye by the ball that was hit by KXIP star batsman David Miller for a six and has lost sight from the eye.
During the last over of the game Miller smashed a Andre Russell delivery into the stands, Aich who works in the Kolkata Police as the driver of the deputy commissioner of the 5th battalion of KP, was in the G block as security personnel during the game and it was then that he got hit.
As reported the constable was quickly taken to the Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) medical treatment centre and was soon shifter to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Alipore a place in South Kolkata. But he has certainly lost vision in his right eye, and he is yet to be told about it while his family members said that they will gradually inform him about it.
Former Indian captain and secretary of the CAB Sourav Gangualy has called this an unfortunate incident while also stating that the player should not be held responsible for such accidents.
Rajeev Mishra who is the Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police said that the police force will extend all possible help to the constable and will be aided with the best possible treatment, “This is a very tragic incident. It is extremely saddening to learn that he has lost his right eye. We are going to extend all kinds of help to him and his family. We will make sure he gets the best treatment at the hospital,”.
