The 2016 edition of the Karnataka Premier League (KPL 2016) will see up to 15 players in the Pool ‘A’ go under the hammer of the auction on Wednesday, the 10th of August. The fifth edition of the Karbonn KPL will also feature eight franchises, something that has been growing ever since its first season in 2011. The KPL also remains to be the first state-based T20 League in India and draws some of the biggest names in terms of domestic cricket.

The auction, to be conducted by well-known sports presenter Charu  Sharma, will see the eight franchisees, Belagavi Panthers, Bellary Tuskers, Bijapur Bulls, Hubli Tigers, Mangalore United, Mysuru Warriors, Namma Shivamogga and Rock Stars bidding for players. This year will also witness the Shivamogga Rockstars participate in the player auction with rules allowing them to make their squad more competitive for the upcoming season.

The Rockstars can spend up to 2.5 Lakh on a pool ‘A’ player and also have a budget of 4 Lakh to spend on the Pool ‘B’ player. If the Rockstars do not buy any Pool A player, they would still be mandated to get a minimum of five and a maximum of six Pool B players, but the purse will be limited to Rs 4 lakh. KL Rahul and Stuart Binny are the only two players who are not present for the auction at the moment as they are fulfilling their commitments in the Caribbean with the Indian side. CM Gautham, Abhishek Reddy, David Mathias, Kunal Kapoor, and Shishir Bhavane are the others who belong to the Pool ‘A’ category.
