Krishnappa Gowtham became an overnight sensation after his latest blitzkrieg against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajasthan Royals (RR) were dead and buried in the game when he came out to bat and the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Jasprit Bumrah were breathing fire at the death. But the youngster kept his cool and found gaps cleverly on his way to the glory. However, Sanju Samson, his teammate, was left overawed with his knock and termed it as once in a lifetime experience.
Gowtham smacked 33 off just 11 deliveries during his heroic stay in the middle and won the game for his side with a maximum when 6 were needed off 3 balls. By no means, it was an easy task when he came out to bat as the hosts needed 42 off just 3 overs and they had just lost Samson, Ben Stokes and Heinrich Klaasen in quick succession. But the youngster had come determined and won the game single-handedly for his team.
He was brilliant
Sanju Samson also scored a patient half-century while stitching a crucial partnership with Ben Stokes in the middle overs. Though he was all praise of the star player of the night Krishnappa Gowtham in the post-match presser. “Gowtham’s innings was brilliant. The knock was a (once in a) lifetime experience not just for him, but for all of us,” he said. He also explained that the bowling side is under pressure always while defending the total and so he tried to take the game deep.
“I knew that whenever a team chases, the bowling side are under pressure. While chasing an innings, it is necessary to take the match as deep as possible,” Samson added. Royals have now won three matches after playing 6 matches and are currently fifth in the points table. They have got the momentum on their side now and would hope to carry forward in the same vein in the upcoming matches.
