Rishabh Pant has been hogging the headlines for quite a significant amount of time now. He wasn’t picked in the initial squad for the 2019 World Cup and the decision to leave him outdrew a lot of criticism. But luck favoured him and he was roped in as a replacement of Shikhar Dhawan, who was ruled out due to a thumb injury. Pant couldn’t live up to expectations though in the mega event.

In the semi-final versus New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester, he was guilty of throwing his wicket away to Mitchell Santner through a rash stroke. The southpaw is currently with the Indian team in the West Indies for a three-match ODI series. Prior to that, the 21-year-old played the three-match T20I series and again gave his wicket away in the first two matches at Lauderhill, Florida.

However, he made amends in the third T20I at the Providence Stadium in Guyana where he stepped up with a match-winning 65 off 42 with four fours and as many sixes. The left-handed Pant is next scheduled to play the second ODI on Sunday at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Prior to the encounter, he was seen practising with India’s chinaman sensation Kuldeep Yadav, but at a weird place. The duo honed their skills in the hotel corridor. Kuldeep bowled at him and spun the ball a fair distance. Pant also managed to collect the leather without any mistake.

Pant didn’t get a chance to show his prowess in the first ODI as the game was called off due to rain after 13 overs of the Windies innings. Kuldeep got a chance to bowl in the opening game. The youngster bowled only a couple of overs and gave away only three runs, hitting the right channels.

He also accounted for the prized scalp of Chris Gayle, who could only score four off 31 balls. Kuldeep found Gayle’s inside edge and the ball crashed on to the stumps. He didn’t have a great campaign in the World Cup and in the IPL as well for KKR and would be keen to get his rhythm back.
