Prior to the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kuldeep Yadav was expected to play a major role in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) campaign. However, he had a pretty tough time in the T20 tournament. The chinaman bowler could only pick up four wickets from nine matches at an average of 71.50, the worst among the KKR bowlers. His economy rate was as high as 8.66.
Subsequently, he was dropped from the team and couldn’t stake his claim back into the side. The young turk made his debut in the IPL back in 2016 and has played 40 games in which he notched 39 wickets. The southpaw also had the chance of playing a couple of seasons under the leadership of the enigmatic Gautam Gambhir, who won the championship for KKR in 2012 and 2014.
However, the 37-year-old Gambhir was the one around whom Kuldeep used to feel nervous in the dressing room. Yadav revealed the same in a Rapid Fire round with ESPNcricinfo. Under Gambhir, the 24-year-old plied his trade in 31 encounters and picked up 35 wickets. It was prior to the 2018 auction when KKR released Gambhir and the veteran went to the Delhi franchise.
Kuldeep Yadav makes more revelations
In the interaction, Kuldeep also named former skipper MS Dhoni, Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kedar Jadhav as the best players of the game PUBG in the Indian team. The online game is popular among the young generation and we’ve even seen the cricketers engrossed in PUBG.
Kuldeep also revealed that Shikhar Dhawan is the most absent-minded cricketer he has ever met. Dhawan has been a fulcrum of the Indian setup, especially in the limited-overs formats. Both Kuldeep and Shikhar will be an important part of the national team during the upcoming World Cup, where the Men in Blue start their campaign against South Africa at the Rose Bowl.
