Kumar Sangakkara hails Rohit Sharma for his third ODI double-hundred

Sharma scored 208* in Mohali as India won by 141 runs to level the series against Sri Lanka.

The stand-in skipper of India Rohit Sharma has continued to receive accolades from the legendary cricketers for scoring his record third double-century in ODIs. He smashed an unbeaten 208 in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Wednesday. Moreover, India also won the game by a whopping 141 runs to level the three-match series comfortably. However, the former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara is the latest to be in awe of his third double-century in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma had a poor start to captaincy career as the team had capitulated to a meagre total of 112 in Dharamsala under swinging conditions. Though he made a stunning come back in the second game and smashed the same bowlers all over the park on a good batting wicket. He saw off the new ball which swung a lot early on but then the wicket flattened out considerably. He also smacked Suranga Lakmal, the Man of the Match of the last game, for 26 runs in one over and stamped his authority on the game since then.

Sangakkara terms Rohit’s record-breaking spree ridiculous

Rohit Sharma was wished by everyone around the cricketing world along with his fans on Twitter for his swashbuckling hitting during the game. However, Sangakkara was busy during the game it seems as he expressed his opinion a day after the game and heaped praises on Rohit for his gigantic knock. His message for the Hitman read, “Third double hundred? In ODI’s? Ridiculous. What a player @ImRo45 is. Incredible performance.”

The performance from Rohit Sharma was really incredible as he scored the latter century of his innings in just 36 deliveries. He also hit 12 sixes in his innings to go with 13 fours during the marathon knock. His fitness was also proved after came out to field for the whole second innings of Sri Lanka as they posted only 251/8 in their pursuit of 393 in the second match of the ODI series. The third and final match will be played on Sunday in Visakhapatnam as both the teams will look to win the series.
