Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara came out in praise of Bangladesh’s incredible victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo, which was also the visitor’s 100th Test match. Sangakkara applauded the winning team saying this one was possibly their best among all that they have achieved in Tests.
Bangladesh played a very inspiring brand of cricket to register a four-wicket win in the second match while chasing 191 on the fifth-day track. The win becomes all the more significant since it’s their first win against Sri Lanka in the longest format of the game.
Sangakkara, heaped praise on the team of youngsters saying they showed spirit to achieve and accomplished the feat successfully. He also added Sri Lanka is a better team than this and they have proved it in past.
“It is the greatest win for Bangladesh. They exhibited extra ordinary bravery and gave hundred percent in the field. I am sure Sri Lanka will also come back soon. It was a good Test match indeed.”
Bangladesh levelled the two-match series and now will be competing in three ODIs and two T20Is respectively, starting on March 25 in Dambulla.
Opener Tamim Iqbal made 82 and Sabbir Rahman 41 in a third-wicket stand on the final day of the second Test. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) kept his nerve after a few quick middle-order wickets to see his team over the line for a four-wicket win and making sure that the two-match series was drawn.
The victory continues Bangladesh’s rise in the longest format after they also got the better off England at home last October. Prior to the win over Alastair Cook’s England, Bangladesh only had beaten Zimbabwe and a weak West Indies team in Test cricket.
They put up a fighting effort in New Zealand, though they lost the Test series there but the Bangladeshi batsmen showed a lot of character to give the Kiwis a tough fight.
