Indian Head Coach, Anil Kumble hailed pace bowler Umesh Yadav saying that the later always seems to be in the mood to take five-wicket hauls whenever he is given the ball. Umesh has grown on to become an integral part in the Indian Test XI and continues to be that in the ongoing series against the mighty Aussies at home.

Though Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have grabbed the maximum limelight, thanks to the nature of the pitch in both the Tests, speedsters Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma have put up commendable performances earning crucial breakthroughs for the team.

Bowling without a rest and by giving their cent percent in each spell both Umesh and Ishant supported the tweakers bowling their hearts out with the soft as well as hard ball which led to their 75-run win in Bengaluru. The Indian pace duo shared a total of 66 overs among themselves and picked up 5 wickets but were unfortunate enough to remain as the overlooked heroes of the game.

Umesh was in top form from the beginning of the series and we saw an example of that in the Pune Test as well. Despite losing by a huge margin of 333 runs the Vidarbha pacer was by far India’s best bowler as he grabbed a total of 6 wickets in the match.

“We have seen what is Umesh is capable of. Although, he doesn’t have the kind of wickets that you would expect in a home season as he has played literally all the Test matches. But the way he has bowled, the way he has given us the breakthroughs, he may not have a five-wicket haul but every time he has bowled, he has looked like he will pick up a fifer,” said Kumble while addressing the media at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

The Indian coach added, “That’s the kind of maturity and the kind of improvement that he has shown. Its credit to him whichever spell he comes to bowl, he has contributed by picking up those breakthroughs”.

Kumble, the only bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings in Tests, also stated that both the teams have left behind the DRS controversy and moved on to focus on the 3rd match at Ranchi.
“We’ve moved on from whatever happened in Bengaluru. The focus has to be on the game and I thought we really made a fantastic comeback after losing the first Test. The focus is back on the game,” he said.

The head coach also took out time and flattered Ashwin and Jadeja saying “Ashwin will always be spoken about but I am glad that Jadeja has come up and done what he is capable off. I am really glad that both of them are currently at the top of the ICC Rankings.”

Kumble pointed out the fact that it has not been easy for the boys to play 17 matches at a stretch but the boys have coped up really well and came back strong to win the third Test. The 46-year-old was also thankful to god that the team has not suffered any major injury blows like the Australians. He also believes that the return of Mohammad Shami is also a good sign for the team.
