New Zealand are currently facing England in a two-match Test series at Lord’s. The first Test started on June 2 and the Blackcaps have dominated the proceedings till now. If Devon Conway sizzled with the bat with a majestic 200 on debut, then Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson shined with the ball for the Kiwis.
Southee ended up picking six wickets, while the lanky Jamieson picked three wickets. But what caught everyone’s attention was the 26-year-old’s dismissal of England skipper Joe Root on the fourth day of the first session. Root had done the hard yards and was the set batter for England going into the fourth day.
Jamieson though had other plans, as he caught Root off guard with a good length delivery which swung away from him after pitching. The right-hand batter got to a good position to defend the ball, but he could not make a proper adjustment as he ended up giving an easy catch to Ross Taylor. England’s in-form batter was dismissed for 42 and New Zealand bowlers suddenly had their tails up.
If not for opening batter Rory Burns’ century, the Blackcaps could have restricted England to below 250. Burns though displayed grit and determination to fight the strong Kiwi bowling attack. If senior statesmen Southee was discipline and impeccable with his line and length, Jamieson was brilliant with his bounce. The lanky bowler was able to generate a decent amount of pace too and consistently clocked a good pace of above 140.

This was the 26-year-old’s first Test away from home and Jamieson didn’t seem he was new at this part of the world. He continuously hit the good lengths and kept the ball in the off-stump channel. In fact, he managed to induce a lot of errors from the batters and kept the economy rate tight too.
In the absence of Trent Boult, Jamieson stood up and ably shouldered the responsibility with Southee to stop England from getting a handy first-innings lead. The duo’s efforts with the ball have only made two results possible-either a draw or a New Zealand win. At stumps on Day 4, NZ took a valuable lead of 165 runs.
