Former England International and Durham veteran, Graham Onions, is all set to replace Zimbabwean Kyle Jarvis at Lancashire after the latter decided to return back to Africa to resume his international career along with Brendan Taylor.

England opener Keaton Jennings became the recent addition to the list of high-profile player to dissociate with Durham. Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick also made their move to Surrey last season. Durham’s T20 captain Paul Coughlin departure to Nottinghamshire infuriated Chairman Ian Botham.

With the revival of high standards of International cricket in Zimbabwe, the likes of Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis did not renew their contract from Kolpak Deal. Taylor decided to pursue a career in England post-World Cup of 2015.

Onions looking forward to working with Chapple

“I am hugely excited at the opportunity to work with Glen Chapple, a fellow pace bowler who I’ve greatly admired, and join up with Lancashire over the next two years. It was an incredibly hard decision to leave Durham, having played there for my whole career and I certainly leave with a heavy heart,” commented Graham Onions according to Cricbuzz.

“The Club has an exciting and balanced squad, and I can’t wait to play my cricket at a world-class stadium like Emirates Old Trafford, a ground I’ve always enjoyed performing at,” added Onions.

“The club and player have been involved in long discussions in recent weeks and were able to agree on financial terms. However, Graham and the club could not reach agreement on the offer of a two-year extension where the second year is conditional on Graham avoiding serious injury in year one,” read the official statement from Durham CCC.

“Although the club is keen to support Graham in pursuing a coaching career beyond his playing days, there could be no guarantee of an appointment to the professional coaching team on his retirement,” concluded the official statement from the club.
