Lalit Modi made huge revelations yet again as he has alleged former Presidents N Srinivasan and Anurag Thakur for bringing huge losses to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during their tenure. The former IPL chairman used social media site Instagram to make these allegations.
Modi has been at loggerheads with the BCCI ever since the board banned him for life in 2013 when Modi was found guilty on 8 charges. He was mysteriously reelected as the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association – a post he held earlier– in 2014 while residing in London. The BCCI immediately banned the RCA post the elections.
In a fresh revelation, Modi has blamed the former presidents for cancelling the Champions League T20 tournament and ousting Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers from the IPL. Champions League was another big tournament that was planned by Modi but was later done away with after seven editions of the tournament in 2014.
According to Modi, “Srini cancelled watertight contract Champions League T20 and let go of $500 million of revenue for Indian Cricket.” Modi also shared a graphic on the social media site which said that by scrapping Kochi and Pune franchises, BCCI lost a whooping $633 million.
After been handed a life ban by the BCCI, Modi has acted as a whistleblower as he has pressed allegations on individuals and even picked up on Chris Cairns, the former New Zealand all-rounder. Cairns won $9,50,000 in damages as he filed a suit against Modi, who had claimed Cairns was involved in match-fixing in 2008.
Modi also targeted former India captain MS Dhoni as the former IPL chairman leaked his offer letter from his employer India cements. “WHY ? he earns 100’s of crores a year will he #agree to be #SRINI’S #employee. Bet there are many such contracts,” he said in the post.
Lalit Modi has been in the news for the wrong reasons and picking on cricketing individuals won’t lead him anywhere.
