A lot has happened with regards to Lasith Malinga’s availability in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Firstly, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) made it compulsory for him to play in the domestic One-Day competition to make a case for the World Cup before allowing the veteran to play in the IPL. However, he was again called back as the tournament was set to start on April 4 (Thursday).
The cricketer was supposed to leave on Wednesday and there were doubts lingering over his participation in the game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But Lasith Malinga showed utmost dedication towards his franchise to play the encounter for them, his third match of the season, and then flew to Sri Lanka in order to play for his team Galle.
The interprovincial One-Day tournament was starting with a game between Galle and Kandy and Malinga is the captain of his side. He promptly left for his country soon after the IPL game and is currently playing the domestic match at the Pallekele stadium in Kandy.
Malinga reaches Sri Lanka overnight
Lasith Malinga bowled the 18th over of the second innings in the match against the CSK when the clock had almost turned 12 in the mid-night. After the match, he took the flight to Colombo from Mumbai and the travel time is almost 150 minutes and from there on it takes 1 hour to reach Kandy. This means the Sri Lankan skipper must have reached his country only by 4 AM in the morning.
And he took the field for his Galle team as the skipper in the Day game in Kandy which should be hailed. The One-Day tournament will now end by April 11 and it remains to be seen if the cricketer joins his IPL team again to play the remainder of the tournament ahead of the World Cup.
