Lasith Malinga unsatisfied with his own performance: Sri Lanka’s losing streak against Pakistan prevailed in the 1st T20I as well when the visitors outplayed the home side comprehensively to take a lead in the series as they won the game by 29 runs. The sluggish bowling performances of Sri Lankan team once again got exposed as the belligerent Pakistan’s didn’t leave any stone unturned when they targeted the Sri Lankan skipper Lasith Malinga in particular.

Malinga conceded 46 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Pakistani batters shoed no mercy as they didn’t hesitated in bombarding one of the best death bowlers of the world. They also knew that if they can put the experienced Malinga under pressure, then the youngsters would crumble eventually, which was the case here as well.

Malinga doesn’t look even the shadow of the bowler, we know. Even the 31-year old has realized that his performances have hit a new low. The Lankan skipper admittedly said that, “I didn’t bowl very well. If I’m an experienced bowler in T20s, I didn’t do much for the team. The others are all young bowlers and they’re all learning. I have to do better than that if we want to win the match.”

“In any T20s the batsmen go quickly in the last five overs. The two overs I bowled in the last five weren’t great. So that was a big reason for giving 175 runs”, he said.

It is worth mentioning that Lasith was axed from Sri Lankan side for the fifth and final ODI of the bilateral series against Pakistan. He further added that, “There could be a better bowler than me. I’ve handed that over to the selectors. They can remove me from the team at any time. No matter who you are, you can’t guarantee how long you’ll be able to play for Sri Lanka.”

Talking about the positives of the match, Slinga Malinga said that, “Kapu and newcomer Siriwardana batted very well I thought. That’s a real positive for us. The main reason for brining Kapu into the side was to get him to bat the last 8 to 10 balls and play some big shots. He showed today that he can do that. And from what I can see, Siriwardana is a player who can turn matches. We have to let him play freely.”

“I’m really happy for the newcomers. Them doing well means there is a future for Sri Lanka,” Malinga concluded saying.
