Chennai Super Kings aren’t ready to go down without fighting and that was evident in their performance against Delhi Capitals. The defending champions put a clinical show against Rishabh Pant’s team and walked away with an emphatic 91-run triumph. This defeat can turn out costly for DC as they might need to depend upon other match results to make a place in the IPL 2022 playoffs.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. CSK embraced the challenge brilliantly with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway making optimum utilization of the powerplay overs. The duo added 110 runs for the first wicket before Gaikwad perished for a well-made 41. However, Conway continued to torment DC bowlers and he found a substantial partner in Shivam Dube.

Third fifty in a row for Devon Conway

In the process, the New Zealand dasher brought up his third successive fifty this season and ended up scoring 87 off 49 balls. While Dube also played a handy 32-run cameo, fall of some quick wickets ignited hopes in the Capitals’ camp. Anrich Nortje and Khaleel Ahmed bowled impressively, taking three and two wickets respectively.

Nonetheless, CSK managed to post 208/6 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a brief but effective 21-run cameo from skipper MS Dhoni. In reply, DC unsurprisingly went all guns blazing with such a massive total on the board. Both openers KS Bharat and David Warner played some fine shots in the powerplay overs but perished for eight and 19 respectively.

While skipper Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh tried to do the repair work, the required run rate meant they had no options besides slashing their blade hard. Both batters got starts but neither of them could play an innings of substance. The rest of the batters couldn’t come to the party either as wickets fell at regular intervals.

From the veteran Dwayne Bravo to the youngster Simarjeet Singh, every CSK bowler found himself among the wickets. Although Shardul Thakur did score a fighting 24, his efforts could only narrow down the margin of defeat. As a result, DC were bundled out for 117, losing the contest by 91 runs.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to CSK’s triumph:
