Indian Test team has been enjoying a golden run of form and have done extremely well in the format since 2016 under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Naturally, the comparison between Ponting and Kohli are doing the rounds as the latter is as aggressive as Ponting and the former cricketers have different opinions. According to former Aussie captain Michael Clarke, the leadership styles of both the players is different.

The Aussie legend expressed his opinion based on various aspects. He also talked about the recently resolved pay dispute between Cricket Australia, the Australian Cricketers’ Association and Kohli-Kumble issue. But he was particularly impressed with Kohli as a Test captain.

Recently, Michael Hussey drew parallels between Ponting and Kohli’s captaincy and said that he sees a bit of Ricky Ponting in Kohli’s leadership style. When asked about Hussey’s opinion, Clarke refused to compare the Indian captain who is relatively young in his career with the most successful captain of all time. “It is not for me to compare to be honest. I think the team Ricky Ponting captained was a lot different to the one Kohli is leading. Their captaincy styles are different. Can hardly compare, but that is Hussey’s opinion,” Clarke said.

Indian team is doing really well

Pup didn’t compare Kohli with Ponting in terms of leading the side but was quick to point out that the team has been doing well under him. “I think Virat is his own man. His leadership has been outstanding since he has taken over the captaincy. The Indian team has been doing really well,” the Aussie added.

This was not the first time Clarke was asked a question comparing the Indian and Australian captain. Recently in an interview with NDTV, he said that he had never played under Virat and cannot compare them. He also said that the 28-year-old should not be compared to anybody and he has his own style of leading the pack.
