Chetshwar Pujara is backed by batting legend and his personal role model Rahul Dravid, who he replaced at the number three spot in tests, to do well even in limited over’s cricket. Dravid was quoted saying “Speaking from my own personal experiences and as someone who was being seen (basically) as a Test player, Pujara can certainly make a mark in one-day cricket, (which) I played successfully for quite a long time. I have no doubt that Pujara has the ability and skill to do that,” at a promotional event on Friday.

Pujara who has been a part of the Indian ODI team recently but has not yet been able to drive in a place into the playing XI. Dravid said he feels it is just the matter of time that Pujara will get his spot in the squad, India are scheduled to play England and Australia on those pitches and conditions he will be a key for India’s success. The way he has batted in tests doesn’t leave any space for doubt over his ability.
Rahul further stated that Indian team has a bunch of young batsmen now and it is difficult to find yourself a place but he was sure when Pujara gets his chance he will make it count as he has his test experience to back it. He too was type casted to be a Test player in the initial few years so is Pujara both batsmen have similar solidity of defence. Similar are the strokes, Pujara too is good shot maker, can drive the ball on the up and off the back foot, has the elegance to cut the ball to the boundary. Running between the wickets is also a key part of his batting style all this makes for a successful ODI player.
Let’s wait and see when does he actually get the most talked about spot in the team and can he capitalize. Only time will tell.
