Liam Dawson and his connection with Afridi and Pietersen

English all-rounder Liam Dawson has been roped in the England squad for the last two Tests against England. Dawson is a slow left arm bowler and a healthy batsman in the middle order. He has been on the fringes of being in the England team for quite some time now. He made his T20I and ODI debut recently but is yet to feature in the Test format.

Liam Dawson is currently playing for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In an interesting fact file, he is the link between Dawson and two of the legends of the game of cricket. Dawson has a strange connection with Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi and English batsman Kevin Pietersen.

Liam Dawson shares his birthday with the Pakistani all-rounder. Both have their birthdays on March 1. Dawson will hope to do what Afridi did on his Test debut. The boom boom all-rounder had bagged a five-wicket haul in his debut against Australia. They both are currently plying their trade for the same franchise in the BPL. Afridi and Dawson are a part of the Rangpur Riders team.

Talking about the connection between Liam Dawson and the England discard Kevin Pietersen, the duo have a strange history. Dawson has the upper hand against Kevin Pietersen when it comes to domestic cricket. The English all-rounder has the distinction of dismissing KP for a golden duck not just once but twice.

When Pietersen was dropped from the Test team, he made his comeback in the county championships. It was Dawson who got rid of him on the very first ball to hand KP a golden duck on return. Earlier in the same season, Liam Dawson had the upper hand in the shortest format of the game too. KP, who was playing for Surrey in the T20 competition, was dismissed on the first ball by Dawson.

Now that is some serious connection with two of the best players of the business. Dawson is most likely to replace Gareth Batty in the playing eleven for the 4th Test to be held in Mumbai.
