List of highest wicket-takers in the Pakistan Super League

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is one of the premier leagues from across the globe. It is one of the most successful leagues and a great way to revive cricket in Pakistan. It also draws up some great attention from fans and experts all around the world. With the third season of the Pakistan Super League just about a week away, the expectations among the spectators are sky-rocketing. Also, the addition of a new team, the Multan Sultans will notch up the intensity of the league to a much higher level. Superstars from different countries will want to exhibit their talent in the league and some will also look to make a comeback to the national team through this league. Peshawar Zalmi will go into this season as the defending champions. For any franchise to be successful in a T20 league, the bowlers play a crucial role. In such a scenario, let us have a look at the top bowlers in the PSL. Here is the list of highest wicket-takers in Pakistan Super League: 1. Wahab Riaz – 30 wickets Wahab Riaz. He picked 30 wickets in the two seasons that he has played so far. With him being one of the consistent performers in PSL, his franchise Peshawar Zalmi retained him this season. Riaz enjoys the ability to unnerve batsmen with his bounce and variations resulting in wickets on the trot. His fiery spell against Shane Watson in the 2015 Cricket World Cup speaks loads about the talent he possesses. He played 19 matches in the PSL so far to pick as many wickets. Although he has been in and out of the Pakistan team, Peshawar franchise will hope for him to utilize his talent to the best of his ability. Riaz also played a crucial role in Peshawar Zalmi’s triumph to the title last year. 2. Mohammad Sami – 24 wickets Mohammad Sami. Although he last played for Pakistan in 2015, he remains to be one of the top wicket-takers in PSL. He picked 227 international wickets for Pakistan and is fondly called the modern Malcolm Marshall by legendary cricketer Imran Khan. Sami swings the ball both ways at a high pace and enjoyed some great success in his stint with Pakistan. He stands second on the list of highest wicket-takers with 24 wickets in just 16 games. He was also awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ twice in his first four games. His impressive performances resulted in a national call-up for the T20I WC in 2016. He was retained by the Quetta Gladiators for the next two seasons. He ended up the 2017 season picking 10 wickets in 10 games. Overall, he picked 23 wickets in the 20 matches he played so far and will be instrumental in their success this year. Gladiators were the runners-up the last two seasons and will want to win the title this year. 4. Sohail Khan – 20 wickets Sohail Khan. He is highly inconsistent with the ball and hence didn’t get a chance to feature in many international games. The 33-year-old also enjoys the distinction of picking the best figures by an international in a first-class match. He managed to pick 20 scalps in the 14 games that he played in for the Karachi Kings. Khan has also garnered praise from legends like Wasim Akram and Imran Khan for his pace, accuracy, and ability to get the ball dancing to his tunes. Sohail will be eager to carry on his good performances in PSL-3 and the Karachi Kings will hope that he delivers the right goods. 5. Mohammad Asghar – 19 wickets Mohammad Asghar. The 19-year-old Afghan descendant Pakistani cricketer ascended up the ladder in PSL very quickly and emerged as the 5th highest wicket-taker. He was picked to play the PSL at just 17 and has taken 19 wickets in the 16 games that he played. The slow-left arm bowler is deceptive in the air and is expected to make it into the national team soon. The youngster enjoys maturity beyond the years and can hold his composure under pressure which helps him stand apart from others. He will represent the Peshawar Zalmi under the leadership of two-time T20I WC winning skipper, Darren Sammy. Furthermore, he is expected to play a crucial role for the defending champions this year.
