South Africa played Australia in the 1999 World Cup semi-final. Australia batted first making 213 with Michael Bevan’s 65 being the top score. South Africa’s chased was damaged by Shane Warne’s 4/29 and they needed 9 runs to win in the last over bowled by Damien Fleming and they had Lance Klusener and Allan Donald on the crease. Klusener hit the first 2 balls to the cover boundary and almost got run out on the third ball going for the winning run. Africa needed to win, because they had been beaten by Australia in their Super Six meeting meaning that Australia would have gone through if there was a tie.
Klusener hit the next ball straight and went off for the run, but Allan Donald was watching the ball and was run out without facing a ball and South Africa lost the match.
