Lodha Panel directive set to postpone CAB polls

The Lodha Panel directive to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is set to postpone the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled on July 31. According to the directive, the state associations must obey all the recommendations and ensure all administrative changes are put in place within the six-month deadline set by the Supreme Court.

Some CAB members were hopeful that the elections, which were on the AGM agenda, could be conducted after the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) went ahead with their polls on Tuesday. But the directive clearly stated that all elections in BCCI and state associations should be “kept on hold.”

There was no official communication from the CAB on Wednesday, but it was learnt that president Sourav Ganguly will meet all office-bearers on Thursday before announcing the decision. It was also learnt that the BCCI will hold a meeting on Monday with legal experts.

The Supreme Court of India has accepted most of the Lodha Committee recommendations covering wide-ranging aspects of the game in India. The Panel has put emphasis on the governance structure and administration of BCCI and the issues of transparency.

Another big change recommended by the Lodha Committee earlier was the transformation of the entire power structure in the board. It wanted to change BCCI’s electorate to one association per state.

Justice RM Lodha and retired Supreme Court judges, Ashok Bhan and R. Raveendran have been overseeing all the proceedings.
