In a surprising turn of events, Zimbabwe’s ace batsman Brendan Taylor has expressed his desire to play for his country again. Which means that the shock received by the Notts didn’t end after the surprising retirements their two keys players by the names of Michael Lumb and Greg Smith. Lumb had to quit playing due to medical advice and Smith desired to go for greener pasture and opportunities outside cricket.

The Nottinghamshire side is currently struggling to keep up with the pace at which they are losing key players and have no immediate replacements to opt for. Stuart Broad and Brendan Taylor themselves expressed their shock regarding the sudden announcement from the duo.

Zimbabwe, who recently had an exceptional tour to Sri Lanka, sought for the services of Taylor yet again, after losing him to Kolpak deal post-2015 World Cup. It is said that the conditions of Zimbabwe Cricket have improved under the present regime. Taylor had to take retirement after he was fed up with the governance of Zimbabwe cricket.

Tempting for Taylor to represent Zim again, says Newell

“Brendan has been contacted by Zimbabwe Cricket (the sport’s governing body in the country) about returning home to play there, and we appreciate his honesty in explaining that to us. I know he has really enjoyed his experience of playing for Nottinghamshire, but, equally, it will be tempting for him to play back home where he can be with his family,” commented the director of cricket for the Notts, Mick Newell according to NottinghamSports.com.

“As of this moment, nothing has been decided, and the final decision is very much up to Brendan, but we obviously hope he will stay with us. He is a quality player, so it will come as a disappointment to someone whatever he decides, but we will totally respect his final choice. Either way, we know Brendan will remain committed to the Nottinghamshire cause for the rest of the summer, and he will continue to contribute valuable runs” concluded Newell.
