He also backed the yo-yo test which has been mandatory to clear to make it to the national side.

Virat Kohli is always at the centre stage no matter where the Indian team is playing. He looked in good form in the limited-overs leg of the ongoing England tour and is being tipped to improve his dismal record in Tests in the country. Sourav Ganguly has also pinned all his hopes on the Indian captain to come good in the upcoming Test series against the hosts which will get underway on August 1.

India has historically struggled in England especially in Tests and the results during their recent tours prove it. They were whitewashed by 4-0 in 2011 and then were handed a 3-1 thrashing in 2014. This time around though they are expected to give a tough fight to the home side who are not looking the strongest on paper at least.

Nation believes in Kohli

Sourav Ganguly was effusive in praise of Virat Kohli in the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’ hosted by Gaurav Kapur and also went on to say that he will be the one to watch out for in the five-match rubber. “When Virat Kohli plays, wherever you are you will come and watch that because he is playing. That is his impact. When you look at him, you will get to know that this Man has a mission of making his team the best,” he said.

The former Indian captain backed the idea of making the much-scrutinised yo-yo test as a mandatory selection criterion. He believed that the sport has revolutionised over the years and as an athlete one should possess supreme fitness to meet the demands.

“There is fitness and yo -yo test. People criticize it but there is a reason behind these tests. You have to be mentally tough. Now cricket is fitness oriented and sports has changed over the years. I have a lot of hopes on Virat Kohli and nation believes in him,” Dada added.
