LPL 2022 to start on August 1, final on August 21

Jaffna KIngs have won both the editions of the tournament so far and will be eyeing a hat-trick in this year's edition.

The third edition of the Lanka Premier League will commence on August 1, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on July 12. The opening fixture of the competition will see defending champions Jaffna Kings squaring up against last year’s runner-up Galle Gladiators in Colombo.

The competition will feature five teams – Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Colombo Stars, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants, who will face off in 24 matches, out of which 20 will be conducted in league stages while the remaining four will be in knockout stages, including the final on August 21 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota.

The 13-day-long tournament will feature two games each day in the group stages, with the day matches kicking off at 3.00 pm while the night matches starting at 7.30 pm. R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium will host the first 14 matches, and the teams will travel to the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium for the remaining matches, including the final.

The tournament will feature a total of 353 players, among which 180 foreign and 173 Sri Lankan players will represent the teams in the tournament. Each team’s roster will comprise of 20 players, consisting of 14 Sri Lankans and six international cricketers.
