The fourth edition of the exciting Lanka Premier League (LPL) is all set to kickstart July 30 and the summit clash slated to be played on August 20. Much like the previous editions, the 2023 season of the top-tier league will see five teams - Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Galle Titans, Jaffna Kings, and B-Love Kandy battling it out for the coveted title.
Defending champions Jaffna Kings will lock horns with Colombo Strikers in a recap of previous edition’s final in the curtain raiser on July 30 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Fans will be eager to follow their favourite teams and track the LPL Live Score as the five teams in the mix will play 20 matches in the group stage followed by an IPL-styled playoff.
The five teams will play one another twice in a double round robin fashion in the group stage prior to the knockout rounds, between July 30 and August 15. It is worth mentioning that the first couple of matches will be played in Colombo followed by a string of fixtures at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in Kandy.
The business end of the league including the knockout phase will again be hosted in Colombo. In addition to this, a reserve day is in place and the final will be played on Monday, August 21, if an unfortunate scenario arises. The top four teams in the LPL Points Table will further progress to the playoffs and will lock horns in the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 rounds based on their standings.
Speaking about the LPL Winners thus far, Jaffna have been the dominant force every season as they have won all three titles (two as Kings, one as Stallions). However, the teams in the fray in 2023 have a solid squad on paper. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Jaffna’s dominance will continue or not.
