It will be KL Rahul vs Rishabh Pant as Lucknow Super Giants will take on Delhi Capitals in Match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, which takes place at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Thursday (April 7). Both teams have unavailability issues in their camps but that hasn’t stopped them from opening their account in the team standings.

While Delhi Capitals defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their opening fixture, Gujarat Titans got the better of Rishabh Pant’s team in the latter’s subsequent game. On the other hand, LSG lost to GT in their opening game but came back strongly and defeated Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. As far as the on-paper strength of both teams is concerned, LSG looks like a much more balanced squad with a plethora of quality all-rounders in the ranks.

Although Marcus Stoinis is yet to join the squad, the team hasn’t felt his absence much. The likes of KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Evin Lewis have already fired in this tournament. Among bowlers, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi have been impressive. With Jason Holder coming into the picture and joining Krunal Pandya, and Deepak Hooda in the all-round department, the side looks even more balanced.

Hence, LSG have all the reasons to take the field with confidence. As far as DC are concerned, the return of David Warner will be a massive boost for them. While Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant got starts in previous games, they couldn’t go on to play substantial knocks. Although Lalit Yadav’s emergence has been a positive for the side, the likes of Mandeep Singh and Rovman Powell haven’t fired yet.

As far as the bowling department is concerned, Anrich Nortje’s return from injury would be a great boost. He will join forces with the likes of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Mustafizur Rahman. Hence, LSG batters will have to fight hard for runs.

Pitch and Conditions

The track at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy has been pretty even so far. While the pacers get some assistance early on, the pitch eases out for batting as the game progresses. As dew is set to play a part in the latter half, the team bowling second will have a hard time. Therefore, chasing still looks the way forward here. However, it must be noted that LSG successfully defended 169 against SRH in the last game at this venue.

Playing combination for LSG vs DC

Lucknow Super Giants

As Marcus Stoinis is still unavailable, there shouldn’t be any changes in the LSG line-up. There might be a thought of including Manan Vohra at the expense of Manish Pandey. However, the latter is likely to get a few more chances, considering his massive experience.

Predicted XI: KL Rahul (Captain), Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Evin Lewis, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Andrew Tye, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi

Delhi Capitals

There will definitely be some significant changes in the DC set-up. David Warner straightaway replaces Tim Seifert at the top with the former being fit and available. KS Bharat can come at the expense of under fire Mandeep Singh. The other change would see Anrich Nortje replacing Khaleel Ahmed as Ricky Ponting suggested the South African pacer would take the field against LSG.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, KS Bharat/ Mandeep Singh, Rishabh Pant (captain/wicketkeeper), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman
