Former Indian Cricketer and part of the World Cup winning squad of 1983, Madan Lal recently took a jibe at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for awarding the selectors for a sum of 15 lakhs to the selectors to pick a team which reached the finals of the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup.
BCCI made the move of rewarding the selectors of both men’s and women’s team to recognise the efforts to pick the best team. Madan Lal took to Twitter to express his views on the move made by the BCCI. Lal lashed out by saying that its their duty to pick the best available side and not average or bad ones prior to a major ICC tournament.
“Surprise to read that selectors are rewarded 15L to pick the best team. They suppose to pick the best team not bad team,” tweeted Madan Lal on the social media website. The decision to reward each of the members of men’s and women’s selection committee arrived after the meeting between the office bearers of BCCI and Committe of Administrators (CoA).
“They have been rewarded for selecting good teams,” commented COA member Diana Edulji according to Times of India. It was learnt that Edulji raised the issue of rewarding women’s selectors for team’s stellar show in the World Cup but BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna suggested if women selectors were paid, then men should also be paid. The logic is that both men’s and women’s teams finished runners-up in their last ICC assignment.

The other point of discussing which came out during the meeting was the issue of pending dues of Mohammad Azharuddin. “Azharuddin’s case has been referred to the general body and Sreesanth’s case, the legal team is still studying. Azharuddin’s case was discussed at length. The legal team has given its opinion and I believe the general body will take a favourable decision,” added Edulji
