The 2017-18 edition of the Ranji Trophy is all set to get underway in three week’s time. The teams have started to announce their squads for the premier domestic competition of India. Recently, Tamil Nadu had announced the probables list and now the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) announced a 22-member probables squad for the tournament this year. MP will play in the Group C in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18.

They are placed in the pool along with heavyweights Mumbai and Tamil Nadu. Certainly, the MPCA selectors knew they had to pick their best possible players to prove to be efficient against the quality oppositions. Veteran batsman Devendra Bundela and wicketkeeper batsman Naman Ojha form the core of the side yet again.

While Ojha has been donning the gloves for Madhya Pradesh for a long time now, Bundela has represented the state for over two decades now. The experience quota is certainly there as Ishwar Pandey is also included in the squad. Meanwhile, the selectors opted to look in at as many as four rookie uncapped players.

Uncapped players

The four uncapped players in the list are: Parth Sahani, Anshul Tripathi, Wasim Ahmed, and Samad Khan. Sahani and Tripathi have played limited overs cricket for MP while Wasim and Samad impressed in local tournaments. As per the quotes in Cricbuzz, they impressed in the inter-divisional matches organised by MPCA.

“The camp has been going on since May. Players across age-groups [have been] involved in different competitions. The new entrants have been selected following their good show in the inter-divisional and league matches organised by Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association,” quoted MPCA’s media manager Rajiv Risodkar.
