Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have three wins in 10 league matches and are almost out (mathematically not out) of the contention for the playoff spot in IPL 2022. One of the key spinners of the team, Maheesh Theekshana, has been terrific with his wicket-taking abilities and has also kept things tight with a ball in his hand. In seven appearances, he has scalped a total of 11 wickets at an economy of 7.43. In the latest interaction, the former Indian cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Mohammad Azharuddin discussed the form of Theekshana and Devon Conway respectively.

Jaffer thinks Theekshana has been one of the best buys in the IPL history, due to his performances in the limited appearances for CSK. He mentioned that the Lankan spinner has been able to take wickets in the powerplay and death overs, which has helped the team to seal the crunch moments. Jaffer further added that the inclusion of Theekshana in the XI has made the bowling unit strong.

“I think Theekshana has been outstanding and has probably been one of the best buys in the IPL. He’s been the steal for CSK and has taken five wickets in the powerplay, and also has four wickets in the death. Their bowling unit was looking weak, and Moeen Ali couldn’t finish his figures, and after the inclusion of Theekshana, the team has looked strong on the bowling front,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Devon Conway is a free-flowing player: Mohammad Azharuddin

Azharuddin reckoned that Devon Conway is quite talented and is a free-flowing player, and it’s a delight to watch him play. After failing in the first fixture, Conway was dropped from the CSK side, returned in a fixture against the Sunrisers, stitched a 182-runs stand with Ruturak Gaikwad, and followed it up another half-century in the subsequent fixture. In the ongoing fixture against Delhi Capitals (DC), the Kiwi opener was dismissed on 87 off 49. Azharuddin added that decisions of the team management have gone completely wrong with a player like Devon Conway warming the bench on most occasions in this season.

“Conway is a free-flowing and outstanding player and if his partnerships with Gaikwad remain the same, he will certainly get the confidence for his upcoming assignments. With the presence of such quality players, you [CSK] are not able to qualify for the playoffs, then the team combinations have been completely wrong,” said Azharuddin.
