Mahela Jayawardene comes up with epic reaction after being wished on Women's day

Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene is known to be a class act on the field. The elegant right-handed batsman has been one of the best players to have served Sri Lankan cricket over the years. The veteran player, who continues to ply his trade in the T20 leagues around the world, is a class act off the field too. The former skipper turned out to be a good sport as he took a tweet in a healthy spirit that was arguably aimed at trolling him.

March 8 is celebrated as the International Women’s Day. The Hindi or the Sanskrit equivalent of Woman is known as ‘Mahila’. Well, there is a subtle spellcheck difference between the Sanskrit equivalent of Mahila and Mahela. This was the very base of the pun that was used by a fan to troll Mahela Jayawardene on micro blogging site Twitter recently. Much to the amazement of the fan and the other followers of the cricketer, Jayawardene came up with a fitting reply that would have surely left the fan stumped.

Elaborating the incident, a fan named Manish Bindroo wished Mahela on the occasion of the International Women’s day. He certainly did not forget to add lots of respect that the cricketer deserves in his tweet as he called him the best Sri Lankan cricketer. He tweeted, “Happy women’s day to the best Sri Lankan cricketer. #womensday”.

Mahela was quick to respond back as he rightly wrote back asking the fan to know the big difference between the two words Mahila and Mahela. Clearly, the way Mahela Jayawardene handled the tweet was a masterclass in its own. He wrote, “You should know the difference of Mahela and Mahila?”.

Talking about the on-field action of the veteran batsman, Jayawardene was most recently seen playing for the Karachi Kings in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League. He will be next seen in the role of the coach of Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
