Makers of Thalaivi and 83 announce biopic on IPL founder Lalit Modi

The 'Maverick Commissioner's book depicts how the IPL was unearthed for the first time in 2008.

Vishnu Vardhan Induri has produced a lot of inspirational movies, including ’83’ which is based on the maiden World Cup triumph of the Indian Cricket Team, and ‘Thalaivii’ which was a major hit, depicting the life of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa. His next movie-making is around the book ‘Maverick Commissioner’ written by renowned sports journalist Boria Majumdar on the Lalit Modi – IPL saga. The book is to be published by Simon & Schuster India on May 20.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) was inaugurated in 2008 with eight franchises and the concept was introduced by Lalit Modi, the former chairman and commissioner of the league. The tournament has grown into a great success story since then, making the Indian team one of the powerhouses in world cricket. A lot of talented cricketers have been identified from various regions and they have been able to make it to the national side through their performances in the tournament.

Vishnu Induri mentioned that the book shares a lot about how the IPL has made a big impact in the lives of Indian people and the way it has transformed into one of the world’s biggest cricket carnivals. He added the movie will highlight the fact that the IPL is more than just a sport in the country.

“Formation of the biggest cricket league in the world, IPL has changed the cricketing world forever. The book is a fascinating account of the creation of the world’s biggest cricketing carnival, IPL. It also features insights about the man who was responsible for the show, Lalit Modi,” Vishnu was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

“We all are passionate about the game! While 83 was all about depicting history, IPL will be about showcasing how the game has turned into something more than a sport,” he added.
