The beauty of the Indian Premier League lies in its talented domestic players who get an opportunity to showcase their abilities on the big stage. Each year, one such player emerges from the tournament, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Mustafizur Rahman who was the find of the IPL last year.

This year, a player from the same team, Rashid Khan, has been a revelation of sorts. But when it comes to batting, Punjab’ Manan Vohra, against Hyderabad on Monday proved that he has enough potential to be considered in the national team some day. The standout point in his innings was when Rashid bowled a googly to him, which Manan read and hit for a six. He finished his innings scoring a 50 ball 95, but unfortunately, his vital contribution could not take his team over the line.

But the grit shown by the 23-year-old drew praises from the cricket fraternity, and SRH skipper David Warner described his six off Rashid’s googly as, “that’s a top shot man”

Manan Vohra, in a telephonic interview to Hindustan Times, said that Warner’s words for him were very encouraging. And he further revealed what Virender Sehwag told him.

“David Warner was kind enough to say encouraging words during the match. I promised Viru paaji that I will stay in the middle for 12-14 overs. I am happy to have done that and would like to make it a habit. I wish the team had won too. Viru paaji said later, “ab khada tha toe khatam karke aata”

Manan rose to fame in his first IPL season in 2013. But in 2014, not everything went his way and he wasn’t able to make a mark.

However, his innings against Hyderabad not only proved that he is a terrific batsman but also showed that he can anchor his innings with grit. While the wickets of his second fiddles kept falling one by one, Vohra was the only batsman who didn’t give up, before being dismissed eventually when the game went down to the wire.
