South Africa head coach Mark Boucher was accused of racially discriminating the national team players from the past. The former players of South Africa argued that Boucher treated some players indifferently. In the latest turn of events, Boucher has asked the national team to open up on the charges that have been put on him by former Protea players at the Social Justice and National-Building (SJN) hearings.

It has to be noted that Boucher along with some other players of the 1990s and 2000s have been named in the matter that talked of racial discrimination in the team. In the same light of events, Boucher is also expected to come up with a public statement and he has explained his stand to the team who got affected by the SJN hearing.

The white-ball skipper of South Africa Temba Bavuma also threw light on the issue stating that Boucher has talked to all of them regarding allegations on him. He has also provided clarity and context in the matter and the talk was all about taking players in his comfort and confidence.

“I’d be lying if I said it didn’t have an impact on us as a team. It’s publicly known that members of the team have been named in the testimonies. Our coach, Mark Boucher has addressed us as a team, speaking to the accusations against him,” said Bavuma as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

We try to control everything that is in our circle: Temba Bavuma

“He provided clarity and context and it was more about keeping the guys in his confidence and comfort. As much as we operate as a team and we try to control everything that is in our circle, those matters do come within the team and it’s important that we deal with it internally and ask whatever hard questions that we need to ask of each other to make sure we can keep growing within the team,” he added.

Bavuma added that the current lot of South Africa supports the initiative by SJN as it helps players to open up on their grievances of the past and in turn, helps them providing the required support.
