Preview:
The 2019 Marsh One-Day Cup match on Monday will feature the previous edition finalists Tasmania and Victoria facing off at the WACA. The defending champions Victoria didn’t have greatest of starts as they succumbed to a 125-run defeat also at the WACA against the hosts Western Australia. The Victorian team didn’t have greatest of bowling attack on Saturday which ended up conceding 386/8.
The intent was right from the visiting side during the big run-chase but losing wickets at regular intervals made the difference. Only Nic Maddinson (87) and Glenn Maxwell (51) scored fifties during the Victoria’s innings that lasted 39.2 overs only. Tasmania, on the other hand, will field a couple of new faces in their first match of the season. Jordan Silk will be leading Tasmania for the first time since 2014.
Weather Condition/Report:
A bit of cloud covering could be seen on Monday in Perth but is unlikely to interrupt or delay the play.
Pitch Condition/Report:
The last edition of the one-day cup witnessed scores between 205 and 245 in the three matches at the WACA. However, as expected, the first match produced a high-scoring game. The hosts posted a record total of 386/8 batting first. The pitch was good for a 320 total but Victoria’s bowling wasn’t that great to restrict the free-flowing line-up of the hosts. We could see a total close to 300 in the match on Monday. Totals up to 280 can be chased down here.
Average first innings score: 266 (List A matches since 2018)

Top Picks:
Aaron Finch doesn’t have the best of records at the WACA but the way he batted for a brief period, he could end up with a big one on Monday. Will Pucovski will have a role to play around a team with dashing batsmen. Jordan Silk’s List A record isn’t impressive but has scored three fifties across four matches at the WACA. The captaincy role could bring consistency to his batting. Matthew Short will be crucial if he gets a chance to open the batting again. Gurinder Sandhu bagged 18 wickets in only six matches in the previous edition.

Expert Advice:
There are quite a lot of options among the batsmen’s category. But selection has to be made with respect to the possible conditions of the WACA track. McDermott and Pucovski will be the key ones as they play the anchor role and are quite consistent. The remaining could be picked based on their batting position. The lower the batting position, the higher the chances of a big knock at this venue.
Probable Winners:
Tasmania’s bowling attack could help them in making a winning start.
