The second ODI ended in heartbreak for Bangladesh after they failed to chase down the 14 odd runs they required to complete the win in just 13 deliveries. The same was lamented by Bangladeshi skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who stated that the same mistakes they have always been making, especially when it comes to the tail end of the innings.

The Asian side has always had issues while chasing down totals especially if matches go down to the wire, they have failed more or less to hold their nerve. Mortaza went on to state that it was indeed disappointing and went on to add that he wasn’t sure if it wsa a mental or technical issue they were facing.

“It was disappointing to lose such a game when you need 14 runs in 13 balls with six wickets in hand and ended up losing the game. It is more disappointing because it is not the first time we have lost a game from such a position as it has happened on quite a few occasions,” Mortaza said after the game on Wednesday (July 25).

“I am not sure whether it is mental or technical because it is tough to describe it. If we required 20 runs from 12 balls then it is a different thing but when you need 14 runs from 13 balls and failed to do so it is hard to decide whether it is technical or mental.”

“We are making the same mistakes”

Lamenting on the loss, Mortaza went on to add that handling the nerves was perhaps  and almost always lose out. “Honestly speaking we are making the same mistake and I think we should have handled our nerves in a relaxed manner and ended the game with singles and twos.”

Finally, he said, “Our fielding was not up to the mark, we dropped catches, conceded 24 doubles. We have one game to go and hopefully we can cover it up in the next match.”
