Mashrafe Mortaza’s mother-in-law diagnosed with COVID-19

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s mother-in-law, Hosne Ara, has been tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Ara’s daughter Sumona Haque’s younger sister Ripa couldn’t evade the ungodly virus either. The news was confirmed by Abdul Momen, a Civil Surgeon, in Narail, Mashrafe’s hometown.

The situation has made Mashrafe a bit upset. The veteran couldn’t attend the meeting by the Cricketer’s Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWB) on Sunday, June 14. He is currently trying his heart out to serve the locals in the situation of crisis.

Mashrafe Mortaza in a stressful situation

“Last Saturday, her (Mashrafe’s mother-in-law) corona samples were collected. MP Mashrafe’s mother-in-law’s report came positive on Sunday night. She is currently receiving medical treatment at her residence itself,” the Civil Surgeon was quoted as saying in BDcrictime.

Back in March when the virus was starting to pick up, the Narail-born Mashrafe donated half of his Bangladesh cricket’s salary along with a few other national cricketers. He then took responsibility of some underprivileged families, delivering ration and other household utilities.

He also sold his bracelet, which was there with him for 18 years. However, to his surprise, the buyer decided to gift the prized possession back to the enigmatic cricketer. Amidst the grave situation, Mashrafe has also been doing some live sessions on the social media platforms.

Recently, he came to the rescue of a 20-year-old pregnant woman, who was left on the streets by her husband. On his orders, the police sent her back to her in-law’s house. He also pledged to take financial responsibilities of the girl at the time of her delivery.

As far as cricket is concerned, he last captained the Tigers in the ODI series against Zimbabwe in March. It was the very series when he made his international comeback after playing in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales where he could only pick up Jonny Bairstow’s solitary wicket.

Tamim Iqbal has been made the skipper of the ODI team after Mortaza stepped away. In his farewell match, the Tigers’ players wore Jersey No.2 to pay him tribute. Though he hasn’t put up decent performances in the last few months or so, he remains to be respected among his teammates.
