England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who recently announced his retirement from Tests, was brought into a talk show to get the experts views on the recently concluded Ashes and he seemed to have been involved in an awkward change with his former skipper Alastair Cook.  The southpaw was the other guest in the show and both have been part of a lot of Test matches together for England. Australia had thrashed the Joe Root led side 4-0 in the five-match Test series and have retained the urn as well.

A lot of criticism has been developing over Joe Root’s leadership skills which haven’t seen the best of results for England and they are lying at the bottom of the World Championship table. 6 losses in the last 10 Tests for England had popped up a lot of questions but Moeen had different views of the skipper. The 34-year-old had played 64 Tests since making his Test debut in 2014 and has played under both Root and Cook.

Alastair Cook and I get on really well: Moeen Ali

Moeen confessed that things had been taken in the wrong manner after his conversation with Cook in BT Sport and noted that he was just explaining the two different leadership styles. He noted that he doesn’t have anything against Cook and mentioned that the captaincy doesn’t need to be judged right or wrong. Earlier on-air, Moeen had taken a dig at Cook for not bowling throwdown to his players while Root had done it. Cook responded humorously by noting that he had bumped straight into Moeen’s ‘long run’ from a holiday.

“It was massively taken out of context. I was just saying the differences between him and Rooty really. It doesn’t mean Rooty is the right way or the wrong way or Cookie is the right or wrong way. We get on really well.” Moeen told as quoted by Daily Telegraph

“‘But there are also some guys who you think: “Coaching’s not for them. He hasn’t got the patience for it, the empathy for it.” Moeen mentioned earlier on air.

“I’m not sure how to take this anymore.” Cook responded

‘I’ve just come back from a nice holiday and I’ve walked straight into Moeen Ali off his long run.’ he added. Meanwhile, Root has opted out of the IPL 2022 mega auction in order to prepare the Test team during the time and Ben Stokes had followed his skipper’ path as well.
