Matthew Hayden deems Virat Kohli as the ‘Best Finisher’ ever

Matthew Hayden is a batsman par excellence. Known for terrorizing the bowlers with his unapologetic striking of the cricket ball, Hayden is now in Tamil Nadu after he was roped in to promote the upcoming Tamil Nadu Premier League aka TNPL. Speaking at the event, the former Aussie opener stated that current Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli was perhaps the Best finisher at the moment. Haydos, as he is fondly called added that David Warner was a complete player in cricket that he has ever come across and also added that Warner is a much better player than he ever was.

“It’s top three actually -David Warner, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers. If it’s Test cricket I would go with Warner. He has matured a lot as a Test cricketer, has got unlimited options against pace and dominates spin as well. He is probably one of the fittest guys and that makes him a complete package.”

“He is better than me. Maybe my defense was a shade better, but the game is not played like that anymore. He has an outright attacking instinct and that has sometimes led to his downfall, but he has been judicious with his shot selection of late.”

Speaking about Virat Kohli, Hayden added that the comparison between Tendulkar and Kohli is something that can be at best avoided. “You should understand that this country would not have been the same if Sachin had not strode out into the middle for 25 years.

Who would have Virat looked up to? Maybe Dravid or Ganguly or VVS and would have done a great job at that, but Sachin provided a huge impetus to the nation. Virat has made that his own now, but he has the challenge of doing it time in time out in Tests. If he keeps doing it, in seven or eight years, we may call him one of the greatest ever.”

“As a finisher, Virat is one of the best ever to have played the game. He has great wrists, fantastic placement sense and most importantly is one of the fittest players. That is the holy trinity that makes a great finisher and Virat owns all three.”
