The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to host the much-awaited 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from September 19 to November 10 across three venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. With the league less than three weeks away, the former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden named the bowlers who could play a huge role in this edition of the cash-rich league.
When asked about the top three bowlers who could have a massive impact in the upcoming tournament, Hayden responded saying that the experienced fast bowlers including the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah can prove to be lethal for the opposite teams.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Star Sports show Cricket Connected, the former Chennai Super Kings’ batsman heaped praises on Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah saying that the two have been incredible in the Indian Premier League. Matthew also hailed Bumrah as one of the finest bowlers in world cricket.
“I feel the experienced seam bowlers will always be a threat. Bhuvneshwar Kumar obviously has been incredible in the IPL.” Hayden said. “And from the Mumbai Indians point of view, who can go past one of the finest bowlers in world cricket, i.e. Jasprit Bumrah. I think he is as good as anyone on their day.” the left-handed batsman added.
Notably, in his IPL journey of 9 years, the SRH seamer has played 117 matches taking 133 wickets at an economy of 7.24 while the Mumbai Stalwart has taken part in 77 IPL matches till now taking 82 wickets at an economy of 7.56.
Matthew Hayden opines on the performance of spin bowlers in IPL 2020
Further in the interview, the 48-year-old also named the spinners who could excel in this year’s edition of the T20 league. Hayden emphasized on the fact that the spinners who have not featured in many games in the past year like Harbhajan Singh can make a big difference to their team’s bowling unit.
“I think you have got a handful of spinners as well who can look to dominate the play. Even the old boys can do the job. I am thinking of guys like Harbhajan Singh, who didn’t play a lot of cricket last year but still a wily off-spinner who can have a go.” Matthew stated. “Jadeja from CSK, some of the leggies as well who have got a big chance to get amongst the wickets this year,” he concluded.
