Discarded Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade was fined for his outburst in the Big Bash League finals. Wade breached the Cricket Australia’s (CA) Code of Conduct during the game when he expressed anger after being run-out in the finals. The Hobart Hurricanes took on the Adelaide Strikers in the much-anticipated BBL finals.

However, a majority of the game turned out to be one-sided and it was the Strikers all the way. Playing on their home ground, the Adelaide Strikers set up a mammoth target of 203 for the Hurricanes to chase. Strikers’ Jake Weatherald lit up the finals with a breath-taking century and helped his team post a massive total. Although the Hobart Hurricanes started their innings on a positive note, the pressure kept mounting. They lost wickets at regular intervals and ultimately fell short by 25 runs conceding the title to Adelaide Strikers.

Matthew Wade charged with 6,000 AUD

Chasing a massive total, Matthew Wade came in to bat in the 17th over of the game at the fall of D’Arcy Short‘s wicket. However, he was dismissed without facing a single delivery in the game. Wade was run out on the first ball of the 18th over as the Strikers won the summit showdown by 25 runs. Wade was visibly seen slamming his bat before he walked towards the dressing room expressing his disappointment. He was furious with himself as he headed back to the dressing room.

This is the second instance in the last 18 months that Wade breached the Code of Conduct. Earlier, he was reprimanded for giving a send-off to Sydney Thunder’s Jos Buttler in January. According to the official website of CA, Wade was charged with 6,000 dollars for the offense. Though the wicketkeeper-batsman refused to accept the offense and contested the charge of abusing equipment, Match Referee Peter Marshall found him guilty and decided to upheld the proposed sanction.

Wade played a very crucial role in the semifinals of the tournament when he struck 71 from 45 balls. He was expected to play big innings in the finals as well. But unfortunately, he was runout denting the hopes of Hurricanes.
