Team India suffered a horrendous campaign in the third Test against England, losing the game by an innings and 76 runs. While many things didn’t go India’s way in the Headingley Test, their batting collapses in both innings were undoubtedly the biggest reason behind their downfall. While India got bundled out for 78 in the first innings, they lost their last seven wickets inside 63 runs in the third innings.

Batting in England is certainly not easy with the red dukes swinging around and conditions being overcast more often than not. Hence, adapting the English conditions for visiting Test batsmen takes some beating. Notably, Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny embraced this challenge brilliantly during the first Test of India’s 2014 tour of England. The venue was the Trent Bridge in Nottingham and Binny received his maiden Test cap.

When Stuart Binny made England bowlers work hard

His maiden outing wasn’t fruitful as he fell prey to Ben Stokes after scoring just one off 11 balls. However, Binny redeemed himself in India’s second innings by scoring a magnificent half-century on debut. Although the conditions were fruitful for batting, the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad were operating with the red cherry.

Nevertheless, Binny backed his attacking approach and scored runs all over the park. Overall, he scored 78 off 114 deliveries before Moeen Ali accounted for his wicket. His knock comprised eight boundaries and a solitary six as well. While the game resulted in a draw, Binny garnered praises from different parts.

On Sunday (August 29), Binny’s wife Mayanti Langer took to her Instagram story and recalled the all-rounder’s gritty knock. She shared a picture of Stuart taking a run with a frustrated James Anderson in the background. Notably, this is the same Anderson who has been making the ball talk in the ongoing series against India. However, in the 2014 Nottingham Test, he also found difficulties in piercing Binny’s defenses.

Meanwhile, Binny, despite a sensational Test debut, couldn’t become a regular face in the Indian Test team. He played just six Test matches, scoring 78 runs and scalping three wickets. Meanwhile, the all-rounder’s last appearance in Team India colours was marked in August 2016 in a T20I.
