Mumbai Indians broke the bank while bringing back wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for the ongoing IPL 2022 at a staggering INR 15 crore. The youngster has lived up to the expectations to some extent so far, managing two half-centuries. However, he failed to trouble the scorers during MI’s clash against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on April 21.

The southpaw looked to roar back to form with a good knock against arch-rivals CSK but that was not to be as he was castled for a golden duck by promising uncapped Indian pacer Mukesh Choudhary. There was nothing that Kishan could have done to play the brilliant delivery as it successfully breached his defence.

The event happened on the fifth delivery of the very first over of the match. The Mumbai Indians were already reeling after having lost skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck and Ishan’s wicket at the wrong time put them in all sorts of trouble. An upbeat Chaoudhary came charging in as Kishan looked to survive the remaining two deliveries of the over.

The promising pacer bowled an outstanding toe-crusher and the MI opener tried his level best to bring his bat down in time but such was the pace of the ball that it completely took the batter by surprise and ended up uprooting his off-stump. The delivery also floored Ishan Kishan and he lost his balance.

While Rohit and Ishan’s wickets put Mumbai Indians on the back foot early on, they ended up losing their entire top-order in no time as Dewald Brevis was sent back for four and middle-order sensation Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket after scoring a quickfire 21-ball 32. MI’s scoring rate has dipped drastically and now the onus will be on the remaining middle-order batters to ensure that the five-time champions end up posting a fighting total on the board.
