Michael Clarke tips Jasprit Bumrah to become No.1 bowler in all three formats

After his tremendous show with the ball in the ongoing Test match in Melbourne, Jasprit Bumrah has left the cricketing world overwhelmed. Apart from Indian fans and former cricketers, even Australians have come out showering praise on the young pacer who registered his third five-wicket haul in Tests this year. Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke was so impressed with Bumrah’s performance that he termed the youngster as a genius.

Bumrah’s show saw India bundling out Australia for 151 runs in their first innings in reply to their mammoth first innings total of 443. The visitors hence gained a lead of 292 runs though the hosts came back hard in India’s second innings, polishing off half their side for just 44. India lost some of their top names, including captain Virat Kohli, cheaply while debutant Mayank Agarwal was waging a lone battle.

Coming back to Clarke’s prediction on Bumrah, he said the Indian bowler will become No.1 in all three formats of the game one day. It may be mentioned here that the 25-year-old is already the world’s No.1 bowler in the ODIs while he is ranked 20th in the world in the T20Is and 28th in the longest format. Bumrah made his Test debut early in 2018 in South Africa and also missed a few games because of injury. Yet, he has picked up over 40 Test wickets in just nine matches at an average of below 23.

Bumrah is a genius

Speaking on Sony Network in the lunch break on Friday, Michael Clarke said, “In the next few months, Jasprit Bumrah is going to be number one bowler in all the three formats of the game. He is a genius.” Clarke’s kind words on Bumrah came even before he picked up his five-wicket haul at the MCG.

Bumrah has so far taken 17 wickets in the ongoing series which puts him at par with Australian spinner Nathan Lyon though the former has done much better in terms of average and strike rate.
