Michael Hussey is one of the most reecongnizable faces in cricket today. Having been in and around for the best part of the Australian cricketing years, Hussey now works as a coach and a mentor with young and upcoming batsmen. However, when he went in front of the cameras with Harbhajan Singh recently, a few stories began making their way to the forefront.

Hussey initially opened up about his first tour of India. “I first came to India in 1994 with the Australia U19 team and we were here for about eight weeks. Everyone in the team got sick. We made all the mistakes – drinking the wrong water, eating the wrong food and stayed in pretty average accomodations. But it was a great learning experience.’

“We learned a lot because the conditions were so alien to what we were used to in Australia. We weren’t able to get VVS Laxman out for eight weeks. But just watching how he went about playing on Indian pitches, we learned. Ever since then, I loved coming back to India.”

The new-foodie Hussey

However, Hussey went on to add that he had fallen in love with Indian food following the mishap of the first time. He added that it was indeed a different experience coming back with the ‘real’ Australian team. When asked about his favorite Indian food, his Australian accent permitted him to say ‘Dal Makhani’ and ‘Murgh Malai Tikka’, both ethnically Punjabi dishes.

When asked what he would like to take back to Australia from India, Hussey was quick on the food yet again. He opened up on the flavours that Indian food had which was something the Aussies were certainly not privy to. He went on to add his fancy for Priyanka Chopra although there is the odd Hindi movie that he does not watch while engaging in a game of movie dialogues with Harbhajan Singh.

A fan of Technology in cricket

“Personally, I like the technology. For the current generation, many careers are on the line and we need as many correct decisions as possible. I am not 100 percent sure that the technology is completely accurate however.” He added that the errors and accuracy was something that prompted the BCCI not to go ahead with the technology for a long time. “I want the technology to get more correct decisions, but I also want it to get more accurate.”

While Bhajji brought up the point of umpires getting decisions wrong, Hussey went ahead and defended them stating that they were indeed doing somewhat of a thankless job by standing there all day long. Mr. Cricket did indeed go ahead and discuss certain aspects of his personal life and new-found ethusiasm for social media and new nicknames.

‘MS Dhoni if I was Indian’

A quickfire conversation erupted between Harbhajan and Michael Hussey.

Harbhajan: Big bash or IPL?

Hussey: IPL

Harbhajan: Ponting or MS Dhoni

Hussey: Both.

Harbhajan: You have to pick one.

Hussey: If i was an Indian, I will choose Dhoni
